In 2016 the administration at Grafton Correctional asked True Freedom to conduct character development classes to the men at the Grafton Reintegration Center (GRC).  On April 24th, 2017, a group of forty men began an intensive forty-five-week program based on the book of Proverbs.

Alpha For Prisons, a sister organization to Alpha International, provides prison-related resources, including the well-known Alpha course, to groups who minister inside of jails and prisons all across the country.

A young man cried during a counseling session because he wanted to be at home with his family.  In jail for the first time for carrying a gun at 16 years old,  he said he needed a gun because the streets of Cleveland weren’t safe.  I asked him what time he got home at night.  He said at 1 am.  I told him…

Five years ago, according to God’s sovereign purpose, True Freedom Ministries launched for the glory of His Great Name.  He has shown Himself so abundantly faithful in every step of this journey.  Only by His power have we been able to serve “the least of these” according Matthew 25:35-40.

On April 21st, Mike Swiger had the privilege of delivering the final address at the Northeast Ohio Reentry Summit that was held at the convention center.  Over 200 business leaders and correction professionals were in attendance. God continues to bless and open doors for True Freedom Ministries.

True Freedom’s Executive Director, Michael Swiger, was asked to participate in the very first broadcast of a new daily radio program featured on 1220AM entitled Living the Word.  Swiger, along with three other ministry leaders from across Northeast Ohio, discussed the controversial topic of: Has the Church in America lost the Truth?

True Freedom Ministries gratefully thanks the Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation for its $10,000 grant, which enabled us to renovate the restrooms in our Cypress Avenue Building, making them handicapped accessible.

Living the Word interviewed Executive Director Mike Swiger this week. The discussion revolved around the heroin epidemic, gangs in prisons, the various outreaches of True Freedom Ministries, and our Golf outing at Chagrin Valley Country Club on July 17, 2017. The radio interview will air next Monday and Tuesday. We praise the Lord for giving True Freedom this opportunity.

On Easter Sunday, Pastor Mark Stradiot was able to visit all five houses in the Juvenile Justice Center. In each house, there are three separate pods. For the first time, Pastor Mark went in, personally, to each of the 15 separate pods (in one day!) with the message of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God continues to use True Freedom Ministries to disciple and give hope to those incarcerated. Below is a testimony from an inmate we serve: “I thank God for this Alpha course cause it’s letting me know there’s still hope for me regardless of my stained past. No one told me at the age of 16 the streets would mess my life up…

Ty, a sixteen-year-old drug dealer, has been in jail three different times since the age of fourteen for carrying a gun. Just before his third arrest, he was involved in a shootout on the streets of Cleveland, being hit three times in his right leg and foot.

Reading is a gift that many take for granted. Unfortunately, many of the individuals we work with were never given this gift. God is using one volunteer, Ellen Naylor, to make a difference by teaching literacy at True Freedom.

TFM board member, Dr. Reuben Gobezie, joined Pastor Mark at the Juvenile Justice Center on February 5th. Dr. Gobezie shared his testimony and Pastor Mark presented the gospel at six services in the various housing units.

God is on the move through True Freedom in 2017. By His grace, we have expanded our prison outreach by launching a weekly Alpha Course at Trumbull Correctional, a weekly Character Development class at Trumbull and an additional section of this class at Richland Correctional.

On January 16, 2017, True Freedom Ministries began offering classes, services, and programming at the juvenile prison at Cuyahoga Hills. Jimmie Smith, Mark Stradiot, and Rae Borders will all be involved in this new expansion of our juvenile ministry.
